I have a bachelor's degree in Sociology, with an emphasis on social work, from Wheaton College, in Wheaton, Illinois. I earned my Juris Doctor degree in 1991 from Washburn University's School of Law where I graduated Cum Laude and eighth in my graduating class. I served both as an author and editor on Washburn's Law Journal, and I am a member of Phi Delta Phi. I am licensed to practice in Virginia, Colorado, and Kansas, and am also admitted in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit.
I have extensive litigation experience, both at the trial and appellate court levels. My main concentration is in domestic relations, including separation, divorce, child custody, child and spousal support, and property distribution. I have several published appellate cases. I serve as a Neutral Case Evaluator for the Fairfax Country Circuit Court, and as a Motions Day Conciliator. I have completed the family law mediation course of studies with the Northern Virginia Mediation Center and have practiced mediation for approximately seven years.
Personal experience as a military officer's wife has given me a concern for and knowledge of the unique issues surrounding separation and divorce of military personnel and their spouses. I am also very involved in my community.
